Job Overview

A Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring that all workplace activities are carried out in a safe and controlled manner, especially in high-risk industrial and construction environments. This role is essential in maintaining compliance with safety laws, preventing workplace accidents, and promoting a culture of health and safety among all employees. In large-scale projects across Saudi Arabia, Safety Officers play a key role in safeguarding workers, equipment, and project operations by strictly enforcing safety standards and procedures.

Role Description

The Safety Officer position involves continuous monitoring of site activities to ensure all operations follow approved safety guidelines. This includes checking hazardous work areas, verifying the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and ensuring safe working practices are followed at all times. The role also requires coordination with site supervisors and management to implement corrective actions whenever safety risks are identified. Regular safety inspections, reporting incidents, and conducting awareness sessions are part of the daily responsibilities to maintain a safe working environment.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

The main duties of a Safety Officer include conducting site inspections, identifying potential hazards, and ensuring immediate corrective measures are taken. They are responsible for conducting toolbox talks, safety inductions, and emergency response drills to educate workers on safe practices. The Safety Officer also ensures compliance with occupational health and safety regulations and maintains detailed records of incidents and inspections. Monitoring high-risk operations such as welding, lifting, scaffolding, and machinery use is a key responsibility, along with ensuring proper documentation and reporting to management.

Required Skills and Expertise

A successful Safety Officer must have strong knowledge of industrial safety standards, risk assessment techniques, and emergency procedures. Experience in construction, oil & gas, or industrial projects is highly preferred. The candidate should possess excellent communication skills to effectively train and guide workers on safety procedures. Strong observation skills, decision-making ability, and leadership qualities are essential. Safety certifications such as NEBOSH or OSHA are considered a strong advantage. The role also requires physical alertness and the ability to respond quickly in emergency situations.
