Description

A Safety Officer plays a crucial role in maintaining a safe and compliant working environment within industrial, construction, and oil & gas projects. In high-risk job sites such as Petrochemical facilities, the Safety Officer ensures that all safety regulations, company policies, and government standards are strictly followed. The primary purpose of this role is to prevent workplace accidents, reduce hazards, and promote a culture of safety awareness among all employees. This position is highly important in the industry as it directly contributes to protecting human life, safeguarding equipment, and ensuring smooth project execution without delays caused by incidents or violations. Safety Officers act as the frontline defense against risks and are essential for maintaining operational integrity in demanding work environments.

Key Responsibilities

The Safety Officer is responsible for conducting daily site inspections to identify unsafe conditions and take immediate corrective actions. They ensure that all workers are using proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and following safe work procedures at all times. Regular toolbox talks, safety briefings, and training sessions are conducted to educate workers about potential hazards and preventive measures. The Safety Officer also investigates incidents, prepares detailed reports, and recommends corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Coordination with site engineers, supervisors, and management is essential to implement safety policies effectively. Additionally, they monitor compliance with local safety regulations, maintain records of safety audits, and ensure emergency preparedness procedures are in place and properly understood by all site personnel.

Skills and Knowledge

A qualified Safety Officer must possess strong knowledge of occupational health and safety standards, risk assessment procedures, and emergency response planning. Experience in construction, oil & gas, or industrial projects is highly preferred. The candidate should have the ability to identify hazards quickly and make informed decisions under pressure. Good communication skills are essential for delivering safety instructions clearly to a diverse workforce. Familiarity with safety documentation, permits to work (PTW), and compliance reporting is also required. Certifications in OSHA, NEBOSH, or equivalent safety training are considered a strong advantage. The role demands discipline, attention to detail, and a proactive approach toward hazard prevention and workplace safety enforcement.
