The role of a Safety Officer is a critical position within industrial, construction, and petrochemical environments, ensuring that all health, safety, and environmental standards are strictly followed on-site. A Safety Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe working environment by identifying hazards, assessing risks, and implementing preventive measures to avoid accidents or injuries. In industries like oil & gas, construction, and maintenance projects, safety officers play an essential role in protecting both human life and company assets. Key Responsibilities
The Safety Officer is responsible for conducting regular site inspections to identify unsafe conditions and ensuring corrective actions are taken immediately. They must monitor daily work activities to ensure compliance with safety procedures and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Another important duty is conducting toolbox talks, safety inductions, and training sessions for workers to increase awareness about workplace hazards. The Safety Officer also prepares safety reports, incident documentation, and risk assessments for management review. In case of emergencies, they are expected to take immediate action, guide evacuation procedures, and coordinate with emergency response teams. Ensuring compliance with AJEER regulations and client safety requirements is also a key part of the role.
Skills and Knowledge
A successful Safety Officer must have strong knowledge of occupational health and safety standards, especially in industrial and petrochemical environments. Experience in handling permits such as Work Permit Systems and knowledge of Muqeem safety profession regulations is highly required. Candidates should be well-versed in hazard identification, risk assessment, and emergency response procedures. Good communication skills are essential for training workers and reporting safety issues to supervisors and management. A minimum of relevant field experience in safety supervision is preferred, along with certifications in safety management or OSHA standards. The ability to work under pressure and maintain attention to detail is also highly important for this role.
