Position Description
Offshore safety professionals play a critical role in maintaining safe operations in oil and gas projects, especially in offshore environments where working conditions can be challenging and high-risk. Positions such as Senior HSE Officer, HSE Officer, and HSE Supervisor are responsible for ensuring that all activities follow strict health, safety, and environmental standards.
In Saudi Arabia, offshore projects located in areas such as Safaniya require experienced safety professionals who understand the complex safety requirements of marine and subsea operations. These professionals monitor daily work activities, identify potential hazards, and ensure that all workers follow proper safety procedures during offshore installations, dredging operations, and subsea projects.
Safety officers and supervisors are also responsible for enforcing company safety policies and international safety standards. Their presence helps prevent accidents, protect workers, and maintain operational efficiency in offshore oil and gas projects.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Offshore safety professionals are responsible for monitoring worksite activities and ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations. They conduct safety inspections, risk assessments, and safety audits to identify hazards and prevent accidents before they occur.
Senior HSE Officers typically lead safety teams and coordinate with project managers and engineers to implement safety programs. HSE Officers assist in daily monitoring activities, ensuring workers use proper protective equipment and follow safety guidelines. HSE Supervisors oversee teams on-site and provide guidance to ensure that safety procedures are followed during project operations.
They are also responsible for conducting safety meetings, delivering toolbox talks, and preparing safety reports. Proper documentation and communication with management help maintain safety standards and improve workplace conditions.
Skills and Knowledge Requirements
Candidates applying for offshore safety roles must have strong knowledge of occupational health and safety standards used in the oil and gas industry. Certifications such as NEBOSH IGC, BOSIET, and H2S training are mandatory for offshore work environments.
Professional memberships such as ASP, CSP, CRSP, CMIOSH, NCSO, or MIIRSM are often required to demonstrate advanced safety knowledge and professional recognition. Candidates must also have valid First Aid or BLS certification to handle emergency situations in offshore locations.
Experience in offshore dredging, subsea installation, and hook-up projects is highly preferred. Previous Aramco approval as a Safety Officer is also an advantage because it confirms that the candidate meets strict project safety standards.
