QC Supervisor – Mechanical, Welding & Coating

Overview

A QC Supervisor specializing in mechanical, welding, and coating disciplines plays a vital role in maintaining quality standards across industrial and construction projects. This position ensures that all mechanical installations, welding activities, and protective coating applications comply with international codes and project specifications. Working on large-scale developments, the supervisor acts as a bridge between engineering teams, contractors, and inspection authorities to guarantee that every stage of work meets strict quality benchmarks. In fast-paced environments such as oil & gas and infrastructure projects, this role is essential for minimizing defects, avoiding rework, and ensuring long-term durability of assets.

Core Responsibilities

The QC Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all quality control activities related to mechanical systems, welding procedures, and coating applications. This includes reviewing inspection test plans, monitoring field activities, and ensuring adherence to approved standards such as ASME and AWS for welding, as well as SSPC and NACE for coatings. The role requires conducting inspections, witnessing tests, and preparing detailed reports for project stakeholders. Additionally, the supervisor must guide and manage QC inspectors, ensure proper documentation, and address non-conformities by implementing corrective actions. Close collaboration with project managers, engineers, and clients is necessary to maintain transparency and achieve project milestones without compromising quality.

Professional Requirements

To succeed in this position, candidates must possess a strong educational background in mechanical engineering or a related discipline, supported by a bachelor’s degree or diploma. Practical experience is equally critical, with a minimum of 7 to 10 years in quality control roles and at least 3 to 5 years in a supervisory capacity. Hands-on exposure to oil & gas, construction, or industrial projects enhances a candidate’s profile significantly. A deep understanding of welding techniques, inspection procedures, and coating systems is required, along with familiarity with international standards and codes. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to lead a team effectively are essential attributes for maintaining high-quality outcomes in demanding project environments.
