Description
A Safety Officer is responsible for monitoring and enforcing health and safety standards on-site to ensure the well-being of all workers and staff. The main purpose of this role is to identify potential hazards before they become risks and implement effective preventive measures. This job is highly important in industries such as construction, oil and gas, and maintenance projects where workplace safety is a top priority. The Safety Officer ensures compliance with approved safety procedures, conducts regular inspections, and supports management in achieving zero-incident project execution.
Key Responsibilities
The Safety Officer is required to conduct daily site inspections to identify unsafe conditions and ensure corrective actions are implemented immediately. They are responsible for preparing safety reports, conducting toolbox talks, and ensuring that all workers are wearing proper personal protective equipment (PPE). The role also includes monitoring high-risk activities such as lifting operations, working at height, and hot work permits. Additionally, Safety Officers must ensure all safety procedures are strictly followed and coordinate with supervisors and project management to maintain a safe working environment at all times.
Skills and Knowledge
A qualified Safety Officer must have strong knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations, hazard identification, and risk assessment procedures. Experience in industrial or construction environments is essential. Candidates should be familiar with safety documentation, emergency response planning, and permit-to-work systems. Strong communication skills are required to effectively deliver safety instructions to workers from different backgrounds. Certification such as NEBOSH or equivalent safety training is highly preferred, along with prior experience in large-scale projects in the Gulf region.
