Description
The Scaffolder (Offshore) position plays an important role in offshore oil and gas operations, where safe access systems are required for construction, maintenance, and inspection work. This job involves assembling, modifying, and dismantling scaffolding structures on offshore platforms to support various technical activities. Because offshore environments are highly challenging, the role demands strict attention to safety, accuracy, and teamwork. Scaffolding ensures that workers can safely reach elevated or restricted areas, making it a critical part of shutdowns, repairs, and installation projects. Without properly built scaffolding, many offshore operations cannot be completed efficiently or safely.
Key Responsibilities
The main duties of an offshore scaffolder include erecting scaffolding structures according to site requirements and safety standards. Workers must carefully inspect all materials before use to ensure they are in good condition and suitable for offshore conditions. They assist in transporting and organizing scaffolding components and work closely with supervisors and other trades such as riggers and maintenance teams. Regular inspection of installed scaffolds is necessary to ensure stability and prevent hazards caused by wind, vibration, or platform movement. The role also involves dismantling scaffolding after project completion while ensuring all materials are safely recovered and stored. Following safety instructions, wearing proper PPE, and attending safety briefings are part of daily responsibilities to maintain a secure working environment.
Skills and Knowledge
Candidates must have strong physical fitness and the ability to work in offshore environments under demanding conditions. Required certifications include OGUK medical clearance, BOSIET training, and H2S awareness, which are essential for offshore safety compliance. Previous experience in offshore scaffolding or industrial construction is highly preferred. Workers should have a solid understanding of scaffolding systems, load distribution, and safety procedures. Good communication skills and teamwork are important as the job requires coordination with multiple departments. Attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions accurately help prevent workplace accidents. Basic knowledge of emergency response procedures is also necessary for handling offshore risks effectively.
