Work Permit Receiver (WPR) – Saudi Arabia

Description

The Work Permit Receiver (WPR) plays a critical role in ensuring that all construction and maintenance activities in industrial and oil & gas projects are carried out safely and in compliance with client and company regulations. In Aramco-approved projects, the WPR acts as the main safety and permit authority link between site operations and the permit issuing authority. This position is highly important in high-risk environments such as refineries, gas plants, and industrial facilities where strict control of work activities is required to prevent accidents and ensure operational safety. The WPR ensures that no work begins without proper authorization and that all safety conditions are fully met before, during, and after job execution.

Key Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of a Work Permit Receiver is to obtain, verify, and manage work permits before any task is started on site. This includes coordinating with supervisors, safety officers, and client representatives to ensure that all safety requirements are fulfilled. The WPR is responsible for confirming that the work area is safe, hazards are identified, and control measures are implemented before issuing or receiving permits. They also monitor ongoing activities to ensure compliance with permit conditions and immediately stop work if any unsafe situation arises. Additionally, the WPR maintains accurate documentation of permits, communicates job scope clearly to workers, and ensures all team members understand safety instructions and operational limits.

Skills and Knowledge

A qualified WPR must have strong knowledge of industrial safety procedures, particularly within Aramco standards and oil & gas environments. The role requires expertise in permit-to-work systems, hazard identification, and risk assessment procedures. Candidates should have experience working in confined spaces, hot work, cold work, and other high-risk activities. Good communication skills are essential, as the WPR must coordinate between multiple teams including engineers, supervisors, and safety departments. Attention to detail, strong decision-making ability, and a disciplined approach to safety compliance are key qualities for success. Prior experience in Aramco-approved projects and valid safety certifications are highly preferred.
