Fire Watch is a critical safety role widely used in industrial shutdowns, construction sites, oil & gas plants, and maintenance operations. The main purpose of this job is to ensure continuous monitoring of hot work areas such as welding, cutting, grinding, and other activities that may create fire hazards. A Fire Watch professional plays an important role in preventing fire incidents by maintaining strict observation and responding immediately in case of any smoke, spark, or flame detection. This job is highly important in industries like petrochemical plants and refineries, where safety standards are strictly enforced and even a small negligence can lead to major accidents. In this specific requirement, Fire Watch personnel will be deployed in Sabic, Jubail during shutdown operations, making their role even more essential for safe and smooth execution of maintenance activities.
Key Responsibilities
A Fire Watch professional is responsible for maintaining a safe working environment by closely observing all hot work activities at the site. The main duty includes standing by at designated work zones and ensuring that fire prevention measures are strictly followed. The candidate must constantly monitor for any signs of smoke, sparks, or fire hazards and immediately alert the concerned safety team or supervisor if any risk is detected. In addition, the Fire Watch must ensure that fire extinguishers and emergency equipment are available and ready for use at all times. Another important responsibility is to prevent unauthorized activities in restricted zones during shutdown operations. The worker must maintain communication with the safety supervisor and follow all site safety instructions provided by the client or contractor.
Skills and Knowledge
The ideal candidate for the Fire Watch position should have strong awareness of industrial safety procedures and basic knowledge of fire prevention techniques. Experience in shutdown projects or industrial plant environments will be highly preferred. The candidate must be alert, responsible, and capable of working under pressure in demanding conditions. Basic communication skills in English or Arabic are required to understand safety instructions and report incidents effectively. Physical fitness is also important as the job may require standing for long hours. Knowledge of HSE standards and previous exposure to Sabic or similar industrial environments will be an added advantage for selection.
