Description
The Fire Watcher position is responsible for ensuring that all hot work activities are carried out in a safe environment according to company and international safety standards. The main purpose of this role is to observe, identify, and respond immediately to any fire risks during welding, grinding, or cutting operations. Fire Watchers are deployed in industrial projects where safety is a top priority, particularly in oil and gas facilities. This job plays a key role in preventing accidents, minimizing risks, and ensuring smooth project execution without interruptions caused by fire-related incidents.
Key Responsibilities
The Fire Watcher is required to monitor all hot work activities continuously and ensure that safety procedures are strictly followed. Duties include inspecting the work area before operations begin, checking for flammable materials, and ensuring proper fire extinguishing equipment is available and functional. The Fire Watcher must stay alert throughout the job and immediately raise alarms or use firefighting tools in case of any fire outbreak. Additionally, maintaining communication with supervisors, reporting unsafe conditions, and ensuring workers comply with permit-to-work systems are also part of daily responsibilities.
Skills and Knowledge
This role requires strong awareness of industrial safety standards and fire prevention techniques. Candidates should have basic knowledge of fire safety equipment such as extinguishers, fire blankets, and alarms. Previous experience in oil & gas or construction safety environments is highly preferred. Good communication skills, alertness, and the ability to respond quickly in emergency situations are essential. A valid safety certification such as TUV or equivalent training in fire safety will be an added advantage. Physical fitness and the ability to work in high-temperature environments are also important for this position.
