Description
The Safety Officer position is responsible for ensuring that all shutdown activities at the Petrokemeya facility are carried out in accordance with approved safety standards and industrial regulations. The role is essential in maintaining a hazard-free working environment during maintenance, repair, and inspection operations, which often involve complex machinery and high-risk tasks. The Safety Officer will monitor compliance, conduct safety briefings, and ensure that all workers follow proper procedures throughout the shutdown period. This position plays a key role in preventing accidents and ensuring operational continuity while maintaining the highest level of safety discipline across the site.
Key Responsibilities
The Safety Officer will be responsible for conducting regular site inspections to identify unsafe conditions and ensure corrective actions are implemented immediately. Daily monitoring of work permits, risk assessments, and toolbox talks will be a core part of the role to ensure all activities are performed safely. The officer will also supervise contractor compliance with safety standards, investigate incidents or near misses, and prepare detailed reports for management. Coordination with project engineers, supervisors, and workers is required to enforce safety protocols and ensure that all shutdown operations proceed without delays or hazards. Maintaining updated safety records and ensuring emergency preparedness are also key responsibilities.
Skills and Knowledge
The ideal candidate must have strong knowledge of industrial safety procedures, especially in shutdown and petrochemical environments. A valid safety certification along with experience in plant maintenance or turnaround projects is essential. The ability to interpret risk assessments, work permits, and safety documentation is required. Strong communication skills are important for delivering safety instructions clearly to diverse work teams. Candidates should also have good observation skills, quick decision-making ability, and a proactive approach to hazard prevention. Experience in Saudi industrial projects and familiarity with Ajeer regulations will be considered a strong advantage.
