Description
The Fire Watch, Safety Officer, and WPR roles are highly important in industrial shutdown operations, especially in petrochemical and oil & gas environments like Sadara. These positions are responsible for ensuring that all site activities comply with safety regulations and that workers operate in a controlled and hazard-free environment. Fire Watch personnel monitor hot work areas to prevent fire incidents, while Safety Officers enforce occupational health and safety standards across the site. WPR staff manage work permits, ensuring that all tasks are properly authorized and risk-assessed before execution. Together, these roles form the backbone of industrial safety systems during shutdown operations, where even minor negligence can lead to serious consequences.
Key Responsibilities
Candidates selected for these positions will be responsible for maintaining strict safety compliance throughout the shutdown project. Fire Watch staff must continuously observe welding and hot work activities, ensuring no fire hazards develop and immediate action is taken if risks are identified. Safety Officers will conduct regular inspections, identify unsafe conditions, enforce the use of PPE, and ensure that all workers follow approved safety procedures. They will also conduct toolbox talks and maintain safety documentation. Work Permit Receivers (WPR) will handle permit-to-work systems, verify job safety requirements, and coordinate with supervisors before any task begins. All personnel must work closely with engineers and site supervisors to ensure smooth coordination and safe execution of shutdown activities.
Skills and Knowledge
Applicants must have prior experience in industrial shutdown or petrochemical projects, with strong knowledge of safety procedures and site operations. Fire Watch candidates should preferably have previous SADARA approval or shutdown experience and must be able to communicate in English. Safety Officers are expected to have strong knowledge of hazard identification, risk assessment, and industrial safety standards. WPR candidates must understand permit-to-work systems and site authorization procedures. A minimum of 60 days valid Iqama is required for all positions. Candidates should be physically fit, alert, and capable of working in demanding industrial environments while maintaining discipline and professionalism at all times.
