Description
The Safety Officer role is a critical position within large-scale industrial and construction environments, especially in high-risk sectors such as oil, gas, and petrochemical industries. This job is responsible for ensuring that all workplace activities are carried out in compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards. In projects located at Maaden (Ras Al Khair) and SABIC facilities, the Safety Officer plays an essential role in maintaining a safe working environment for all employees and contractors. The purpose of this role is to minimize workplace accidents, prevent hazards, and promote a strong safety culture across all operational areas. This position is highly valued because it directly contributes to protecting human life, equipment, and overall project efficiency in demanding industrial conditions.
Key Responsibilities
The Safety Officer is responsible for conducting daily site inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations. He must implement risk assessment procedures and ensure that all workers follow approved safety protocols before starting any task. Conducting toolbox meetings and safety inductions is also a major part of the job to keep workers informed about site risks and preventive measures. The officer is expected to monitor the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure all safety signage is visible and followed correctly. Additionally, maintaining safety documentation, incident reports, and coordinating with supervisors and management for corrective actions are key responsibilities that support smooth and safe project execution.
Skills and Knowledge
A successful Safety Officer must possess strong knowledge of occupational health and safety standards, preferably with certifications such as NEBOSH or equivalent safety qualifications. Practical experience in oil & gas or industrial construction projects is highly preferred due to the high-risk nature of the work environment. The candidate should have strong communication skills to effectively train workers and report safety concerns to management. Knowledge of emergency response procedures, hazard identification, and accident prevention techniques is essential. In addition, the candidate must hold valid documents such as an updated CV, Iqama, passport copy, Muqeem (minimum 3 months validity), insurance, chamber registration, and mandatory Ajeer registration as required for employment processing in Saudi Arabia.
