Description
The Safety Officer is responsible for implementing and monitoring health, safety, and environmental standards at the project site. The primary purpose of this role is to ensure that all activities are carried out in compliance with company policies and SABIC-approved safety procedures. The Safety Officer acts as a key link between management and site workers, ensuring that all personnel follow safe working practices. This position is especially important in industrial environments where hazardous operations, heavy machinery, and chemical handling are involved. The candidate must be able to identify risks, conduct inspections, and promote a strong safety culture across all levels of the workforce.
Key Responsibilities
The Safety Officer is expected to conduct regular site inspections to identify unsafe conditions and ensure corrective actions are taken immediately. Responsibilities include monitoring ongoing activities, ensuring proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and enforcing compliance with safety regulations. The role also involves preparing daily safety reports, conducting toolbox talks, and delivering safety awareness sessions to workers. Coordination with site supervisors, engineers, and management is essential to maintain smooth operations. The Safety Officer must also investigate incidents or near-misses, prepare reports, and recommend preventive measures to avoid future occurrences. Ensuring adherence to SABIC safety standards and project-specific requirements is a core duty of this position.
Skills and Knowledge
Candidates applying for this position must have strong experience in industrial safety management, preferably within SABIC or similar petrochemical environments. A valid qualification in occupational health and safety is required, along with practical knowledge of risk assessment, hazard identification, and emergency response procedures. The ability to communicate effectively with multicultural teams is essential. Applicants must also be familiar with AJEER and Chamber registration processes. Strong leadership, attention to detail, and decision-making skills are important for maintaining a safe working environment. Prior experience in large-scale oil & gas or construction projects is highly preferred, along with a valid Iqama and relevant safety certifications.
