In large-scale projects such as those in Jubail industrial city, the WPR plays a vital role in preventing accidents, ensuring smooth workflow, and maintaining compliance with company and government safety regulations. This position is highly important for maintaining operational discipline and protecting both human life and plant assets.
Key Responsibilities
The main responsibility of a WPR is to receive, verify, and manage work permits before any job is started on-site. This includes coordinating with supervisors, safety officers, and engineers to ensure that all required safety checks and approvals are completed. The WPR must confirm that workers fully understand the scope of work, hazards involved, and necessary precautions before starting any task. He is also responsible for ensuring that all safety equipment is available and properly used at the job location. During ongoing work, the WPR monitors compliance with permit conditions and ensures that no unauthorized activity takes place. In case of any unsafe condition, the WPR has the authority to stop the work immediately and report to the concerned department. Accurate documentation and proper handover of permits are also essential parts of this role.
Skills and Knowledge
Candidates applying for the WPR position must have strong knowledge of industrial safety procedures, especially within SABIC or similar petrochemical environments. Experience in work permit systems such as hot work, cold work, confined space entry, and height work permits is essential. Applicants should be familiar with hazard identification, risk assessment procedures, and emergency response protocols. Good communication skills are required to coordinate effectively with multiple departments and ensure clear understanding of safety requirements.
